Peugeot manufacturing dates back to the early 19th century. Originally a French family owned business, founded by Jean Pierre Peugeot in 1810, mainly focusing on coffee grinders and bicycles. Grandson, Armand Peugeot, initiated the company's move into the automobile industry and in 1890 they unveiled their first petrol powered automobile, Peugeot Type 3. 

Fast forward to 1929 and Peugeot has a three digit naming principle for all their models. The first model to feature this was the Peugeot 201, their first mass-produced car. Despite being the least expensive across France, it was made in such a profitable way that their factory, Sochaux, became the most profitable in the world.

You may remember the Peugeot 205 from 1984, an instant favourite, proving that the manufacturer could be a real driver’s car. They sold over 5 million, breaking records at that time. Another favourite was the Peugeot 107, in production from 2005 to 2014, this city car was produced in joint venture with Citroen and Toyota. Today, they have produced many other very popular models such as the Peugeot 208, first released in 2012, one of the most popular cars in Europe at the moment. The following year they released the SUV version, the Peugeot 2008.
