The history of Nissan can be traced back to 1911 with the formation of Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works producing its first car in 1914, the DAT. They were later renamed and then merged with another company to be called Datsum. The company's present name was adopted in 1933 at a time when they were producing several new models and had established themselves in the international markets.

Nissan faced financial difficulties in the 90s and therefore an alliance was born between them and Renault which helped Nissan financially and strategically. A few years later, in 2001, the company embarked on the Nissan Revival Plan which was very successful. Today, the manufacturer is a leader in electric vehicle technology with the production of the Nissan Leaf in 2010. A worldwide best seller which came to boost the popularity of EV technology.

In more recent years, Nissan has taken to innovation, producing models inline with new technology which includes hybrid technology and autonomous driving. These models include the small hybrid SUV Nissan Juke and Nissan Qashqai with Mild Hybrid and e-POWER.
