Skoda is a Czech manufacturer, who built their first car, the Voiturette, in 1905. Their growth stagnated during the war when they came under communist control and innovation was limited years after. Instead they focused on producing reliable and affordable models for the domestic audience. 

They started gaining recognition outside of Eastern Europe in the 90s when they partnered with Volkswagen. Models like Superb and Octavia became known for their quality and value which led to Skoda’s launch onto the international stage. These family car models are in their third and fourth generations, produced and sold worldwide. 

In 2001 Skoda released the Fabia; a supermini car with clever storage solutions perfect for commuting. Later in 2018, they introduced the Skoda Scala, another compact family car for the masses. Intended to meet in the middle between the Fabia and the Octavia, it was in the German leading magazine for automobiles and defeated its revivals: Mazda3, Ford Focus and Volskwagen Golf.

Skoda has also produced SUVs: the Skoda Yeti and Enyaq which are both compact crossover SUVs. The Yeti joined the race for electric vehicle technology in 2020 whilst the Enyaq was released earlier in 2009 and awarded Family Car of the Year by Top Gear magazine.
