One of the largest and most well-known automobile companies in the world, Toyota was founded in 1933 by Kiichiro Toyoda. Originally, Toyota was a division of Toyota Automatic Loom Works and during the war with China the Japanese government encouraged the company to focus on domestic vehicle production. This led to the birth of the Toyota manufacturer that we know today. 

You can rely on Toyota to always put sustainability and innovation first. During the 50s and 60s they gained international recognition for the Toyota Production System (TPS) which emphasised efficiency, quality and waste minimisation. This would later go on to be known as ‘lean manufacturing’.

Toyota later expanded, manufacturing in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. They released world renowned models such as the Corolla in 1966 which was the best selling car worldwide by 1974.

Another popular model of Toyota was the Aygo city car. An affordable car which hit the European market in 2005. This car was manufactured alongside the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107/108. The production ended in 2021 and it was replaced by the new Aygo X. 

More recently, Toyota has invested in electric vehicles (Evs), aiming to have a significant part of their companies line up electrified by 2025. Their hybrid and electric vehicles include the likes of the Toyota Yaris, Toyota Rav4 and Toyota C-HR.
