Helping to ease Hygiene Poverty

At Just Tyres we are pleased to support The Hygiene Bank. This is a nationwide charity with strong local teams supporting their communities. They work with businesses and communities to provide access to essential hygiene. The Hygiene Bank believes that basic hygiene is not a privilege and Just Tyres are proud to support them in the work that they do.

The cost-of-living crisis has squeezed budgets tighter than ever. This has caused some people to fall into hygiene poverty. This means they are unable to purchase basic items, which can lead to shame, humiliation, and possible social isolation. 

Hygiene poverty means, in real terms, not being able to afford nappies for young children and being forced to reuse them, being housebound because you cannot afford period products. Do you buy a new razor and shaving foam or you do get the bus to that job interview.  A family only having one hair brush or using the washing up liquid to wash more than just the dishes.

What are the facts?

There are 3.1 million people living in the UK who are in hygiene poverty, that's 6% of the population.

• hygiene poverty affects 6% of adults in the UK
• hygiene poverty affects 21% disabled people
• hygiene poverty affects 13% of those from lower-income households
• hygiene poverty affects 11% of younger people (18-34 year olds)
• hygiene poverty affects 11% of those from an ethnic minority background
• hygiene poverty affects 5% of adults who are working
